Abdominal Obesity

Time and again, we have read about how essential it is to get rid of the extra kilogram fat that are spread all over one’s waist. As age advances, our lifestyle become lesser and lesser active and thus the number of ways to burn calories are reduced too. Once such a scenario develops, it is only wise to dedicate a certain amount of time in the day to exercise, be it weight lifting or simply aerobics.

Many studies have concluded over the years the severity of carrying extra fat around the waist. To begin with, research has come to an inference that the capacity of the lungs to inflate to their maximum is affected when the waist size is more than the normal limit. Some even claim this to be a better assessment than Body Mass Index.

Cancer of the colon is another dreaded condition, which has a higher propensity in those who have a larger waist. A recently study conducted observed that those who were more overweight than their counterparts had a higher chance of developing colon cancer over the time period. Leptin, a hormone related to adipose tissue, may have a role in colon cancer as well.

One of the most common diseases of the modern world is Cardiac Disease. Increase incidence of coronary complications led to various studies and hence it was concluded that increased body stores of adipose tissue results in the excess stored over the organs. This can cause clotting of blood, which can break off and lodge in the brain or in the lungs etc. One peculiar syndrome is where there is presence of hypertension, diabetes and increased blood lipid concentrations. This proves the association of increased fats with other systemic disorders.

Thus, eating healthy and working out and burning the excess calories is the only way one can stay healthy. Make sure you do your bit to ensure that your waist size does not increase enormously.
